Hope

Lisa Tremback
Hope hangs in the air,
it’s a big, blue helium balloon
rising up to the home of God.
Hope is such a precious thing,
often mistaken to be only in
lofty prayers, but now,
it is in the political realms,
way up in to the utopian ionosphere where
dreams are born.
Now there are wishful visions that make us sniff that new car smell, feeling like a newborn babe
Even love has crept back out
of the mucky swamp
that lies in our country’s capital.
It’s as if God is has thrown us a line
of a rainbow’s ribbon,
so we may catch that tenuous ring of freedom hovering in the air.
This country, conceived
to be a better, fairer, more inclusive state, where we all could live
one, with God, in whatever form
that we believe.
The air feels warmly full of light,
a promise of His presence,.
